Providing opportunity through housing for our community since 1991
At ECHO Housing & Community Development, we believe that improving lives starts with reducing barriers—barriers to housing, social well-being, and economic opportunity.
Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home. Guided by that belief, ECHO works with compassion, advocacy, and innovation to help individuals and families overcome obstacles that stand in the way of housing and stability.
Through eight housing-centric programs, we provide a continuum of care that addresses the diverse needs of people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. From emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing and prevention to affordable rental homes, each program plays a vital role in creating a stronger, more resilient community.
Located in Vanderburgh County – Evansville, Indiana, ECHO extends its services throughout southwest Indiana. In addition to our federally funded programs, we operate as a Community Development Corporation (CDC) by revitalizing neighborhoods. We collaborate with a wide network of community partners to advance our mission, vision, and core values—promoting housing equity, fostering economic mobility, and strengthening communities from the ground up.
Together, we’re building more than housing. We’re building opportunity, stability, and hope.
I spent years being homeless, on the streets, in shelters and living in parks. I couldn’t believe it when I was informed that I would be moving into my own apartment. I pray every night, thanking ECHO Housing staff for the opportunity they have given me. I am truly blessed.
I ended up on the streets with nowhere to go and was becoming hopeless. As a Veteran, I knew there was help somewhere. Finally, Echo Housing became a part of my life and helped me get my own place and things for my home. My whole life was changed. It has been a blessing.
I was homeless, living on the streets for 8 years when ECHO Housing found me. I now have a home of my own.
I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I had made some bad choices that left me homeless on the streets. If it wasn’t for ECHO Housing, I am not sure I would have made it.
I spent 31 years in prison. When I was released, I had nowhere to go and I felt like no one wanted to give me a chance. ECHO Housing helped me transition back into society.
Finally Home!!
So excited to finally have a place for my kids and I to call home! It’s been a long journey! So very grateful to everyone at ECHO for helping me make this happen! You guys are awesome!
“My caseworker Christa taught me how to use some of the functions on my new Phone!”
“I’ve met one of my goals by working a full-time job for almost 2 months after not working at all in 10 years.”
“Being given this golden opportunity—a chance at permanent housing and a program that truly uplifts lives—has been a major blessing. The selfless, non-judgmental support from ECHO Housing staff restored my hope and guided me toward a better path. I may not call myself a success yet, but I’ve improved in so many ways, and for that, I will always be grateful.”
On Christmas Day, we invite you to join us on 14News – 14 Days of Giving 🎄

This week, we got to say the words that never get old: Welcome Home.
Another chapter of homelessness has closed - not because it was easy, but because people showed up. Not just once, but again and again.
What these photos don’t fully capture is everything that happened around this moment. The phone calls. The coordination. The uncertainty. The long days where plans change, timelines shift, and the work asks more than what some expect.
Our staff come into this work never knowing what the day will bring - or what will be asked of them next. Some days it’s navigating systems and paperwork. Some days it’s hauling furniture, cleaning out spaces, loading dumpsters, and moving someone’s entire life into a new apartment. Some days it’s all of that, together, as a team.
They step up anyway.
They show up anyway.
They do it because housing is more than a unit - it’s dignity, safety, and a fresh start.
Ending homelessness doesn’t happen in a single moment. It happens through service, teamwork, and a shared commitment to walk alongside someone until they have a place to call home.
To our incredible team: thank you for doing the work no one sees, for answering the calls that come without warning, and for serving with heart, grit, and purpose.
And to the person welcomed home - this space is yours. You belong here.

🎨🍲 Thank You, University of Southern Indiana Arts & Design Department 🍲🎨
We are incredibly grateful to the USI Arts & Design Department for hosting a successful Empty Bowls event at Barker Brewhouse, with proceeds donated to support our Veterans Employment Program at the James Bethel Gresham Memorial Home (Gresham House).
Because of the time, creativity, and generosity of partners like USI, the Gresham House is able to continue serving as a vital shelter and employment support space for Veterans experiencing homelessness across 11 counties in Southwest Indiana.
Thank you for standing with our Veterans and for helping open doors to stability, purpose, and opportunity.

✨ Mission Moment ✨
In the last week, six more individuals moved out of homelessness and into housing—a life-changing step toward stability, dignity, and a place to call home.
We are deeply grateful to each person who trusted us with their housing journey. That trust matters, and it’s something we never take lightly.
Thank you to our dedicated ECHO team for walking alongside individuals every step of the way, and to our partners who opened doors and helped make these placements possible. Ending homelessness happens one person at a time—and moments like this remind us why the work matters.

We are so grateful to the Extension Homemakers for spending time at Lucas Place II, bringing cookies, hot cocoa, and a whole lot of holiday cheer.
Seeing our Veterans and the children from Lucas Place come together to sing Christmas songs was a beautiful reminder of what community truly means—connection, kindness, and shared moments that matter.
Thank you for helping make the season brighter for our residents. 🎄✨

🎄✨ Celebrating the Holidays as a Team ✨🎄
At ECHO Housing & Community Development, our mission is only possible because of the incredible people behind it. This past week, we gathered at Birdies for our annual staff Christmas party to celebrate them.
From spending quality time together and exchanging gifts to playing simulator games and sharing plenty of laughs, it was a well-deserved opportunity to pause, connect, and reflect on all that our team has accomplished this year.
We are deeply grateful for our staff’s dedication, compassion, and hard work in serving our community every day. Thank you for the heart you bring to this work and for making ECHO such a special place.
Here’s to an amazing team and a season of appreciation! 🎁🎉
