Providing opportunity through housing for our community since 1991
At ECHO Housing & Community Development, we believe that improving lives starts with reducing barriers—barriers to housing, social well-being, and economic opportunity.
Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to call home. Guided by that belief, ECHO works with compassion, advocacy, and innovation to help individuals and families overcome obstacles that stand in the way of housing and stability.
Through eight housing-centric programs, we provide a continuum of care that addresses the diverse needs of people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. From emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing and prevention to affordable rental homes, each program plays a vital role in creating a stronger, more resilient community.
Located in Vanderburgh County – Evansville, Indiana, ECHO extends its services throughout southwest Indiana. In addition to our federally funded programs, we operate as a Community Development Corporation (CDC) by revitalizing neighborhoods. We collaborate with a wide network of community partners to advance our mission, vision, and core values—promoting housing equity, fostering economic mobility, and strengthening communities from the ground up.
Together, we’re building more than housing. We’re building opportunity, stability, and hope.
I spent years being homeless, on the streets, in shelters and living in parks. I couldn’t believe it when I was informed that I would be moving into my own apartment. I pray every night, thanking ECHO Housing staff for the opportunity they have given me. I am truly blessed.
I ended up on the streets with nowhere to go and was becoming hopeless. As a Veteran, I knew there was help somewhere. Finally, Echo Housing became a part of my life and helped me get my own place and things for my home. My whole life was changed. It has been a blessing.
I was homeless, living on the streets for 8 years when ECHO Housing found me. I now have a home of my own.
I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I had made some bad choices that left me homeless on the streets. If it wasn’t for ECHO Housing, I am not sure I would have made it.
I spent 31 years in prison. When I was released, I had nowhere to go and I felt like no one wanted to give me a chance. ECHO Housing helped me transition back into society.
Finally Home!!
So excited to finally have a place for my kids and I to call home! It’s been a long journey! So very grateful to everyone at ECHO for helping me make this happen! You guys are awesome!
“My caseworker Christa taught me how to use some of the functions on my new Phone!”
“I’ve met one of my goals by working a full-time job for almost 2 months after not working at all in 10 years.”
“Being given this golden opportunity—a chance at permanent housing and a program that truly uplifts lives—has been a major blessing. The selfless, non-judgmental support from ECHO Housing staff restored my hope and guided me toward a better path. I may not call myself a success yet, but I’ve improved in so many ways, and for that, I will always be grateful.”
We’re excited to highlight our Community Development Director, Merrick Korach, who recently served on a leadership panel at the FJ Reitz High School Leadership Academy in support of Community One.
Merrick was invited to share his perspective as a committed member of the Tepe Park Neighborhood Association Leadership Team. His passion for neighborhood engagement and community-driven change shines through in everything he does.
During the panel, Merrick joined other local leaders to speak with students about what it means to build strong communities, invest in your neighbors, and lead with purpose. We’re proud to have team members who live out our mission both inside and outside the organization.
Thank you to Reitz High School and Community One for hosting such an inspiring event!

This week we were honored to present a $7,000 check to support Officer Sam Taylor’s recovery.
Officer Taylor is both a military veteran and a devoted first responder, and it’s our privilege to stand with him and his family during this time.
These funds were raised from the casino play portion of our inaugural Patriot Gala on November 1st - individual donations made directly in support of Officer Taylor by members of our community.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, played, sponsored, and supported this event — your generosity is making a real and meaningful impact.

A huge thank you to the Evansville Adventist Academy students who spent part of their day visiting the House of Bread and Peace! 🎶✨
They brightened the season by singing Christmas carols and generously sharing hats and gloves with residents. Moments like these remind us how powerful community kindness can be. ❤️
We’re grateful for partners who help spread warmth—both literally and figuratively—during the holidays.
Thank you!
